Election Protection: Cybersecurity and Democracy for 2030

The year is 2030, and voters aren't standing in line outside of their municipal buildings to vote anymore. Now, they're choosing their leaders from their own mobile devices. This session will explore what local and state elections will look like in 2030 by assessing what lessons the 2020 election might bring. How can tech be a tool for good, rather than bad, when it comes to civic engagement? What challenges might localities encounter if they try to shift their elections digitally, especially given local and state cybersecurity challenges? And how can election security serve as a jumping off point for broader discussions about tech security for the next decade?
